IAR Embedded Workbench IAR Embedded Workbench
Features supported by the IAR Embedded Workbench are a full C Compiler optimised to the CPU in question and a development environment with C syntax colouring, an error sensitive editor and single click Make and Build sequences.

For many CPUs the packages include a MISRA C checker and some (see details) are C++.

The C-SPY simulator is included with most systems and displays Source or Assembler, highlighting the statement whose execution is being simulated. (Note: for C that may only be part of a line). Windows are available that display CPU registers, multiple memory areas and Watchpoints, all of which are changeable by the user. Some include RTOS plugin support.

Some systems use the same C-SPY interface but rather than simulating execution the code is run on the target via an ICE, monitor or BDM debugger.

Kickstart Kits
IAR's 'out of the box' Kickstart Development Kits are available for ARM and MSP430. They consist of a development board, a code limited Embedded Workbench and a J-link JTAG debugger.
