IAR Embedded Workbench IAR Embedded Workbench
Features supported by the IAR Embedded Workbench are a full C Compiler optimised to the CPU in question and a development environment with C syntax colouring, an error sensitive editor and single click Make and Build sequences.

The C-SPY simulator displays Source or Assembler, highlighting the statement whose execution is being simulated. (Note: for C that may only be part of a line). Windows are available that display CPU registers, multiple memory areas and Watchpoints, all of which are changeable by the user. The Embedded Workbench provides RTOS plugin support and a MISRA C or C++ checker.

Some systems use the same C-SPY interface but rather than simulating execution the code is run on the target via an ICE, monitor or BDM debugger.

Limited Edition
The Limited (LE) version of the Embedded Workbench excludes the MISRA C Checker, C-SPY Debugger, any RTOS plugin and any Debugger Hardware.

Baseline Edition
The Baseline (BL) version of the Embedded Workbench excludes the MISRA C Checker, Design Tools, Printed User Guide, Hardware Debugger Systems and is code size limited. Support is not provided.

Kickstart Kit
IAR's 'out of the box' Kickstart Development Kits consist of a development board, a code limited Embedded Workbench and a J-link JTAG debugger.

Includes a C/C++ compiler and a MISRA C checker. The C-SPY Simulator includes an OSE Epsilon RTOS plugin and STL container awareness. Interfaces link to target execution on the Renesas PC4701 & PC7501 series of emulators and via RS232 or USB to evaluation boards that have the Renesas ROM-monitor firmware such as the Renesas 3Diamond Kit, MSV30222, MSA0654, GLYN EVBM16C.

IAR ModSDKM16C Modular Development Kit

This modular development kit is composed of the generic main board and a choice of CPU module for Renesas M16C24, M16C26A, M16C28, M16C29, M16C62P, M32C87 or R8C1B. It also contains a 16K limited Embedded Workbench for R8C/M16C/M32C and an E8 emulator. The main board offers a complete set of peripherals and interfaces to evaluate a typical application without the requirement to create user specific hardware. It supports both hardware debugging and ROM Monitor debugging.
